"City Life" – Ollerup Dance in China 2012

16 dance students with teachers from Ollerup in Denmark visited TCG Nordica, Yunnan, in August 2012 and danced with Chinese counterparts.

OllerupDans from Gymnastikhojskolen in Ollerup, Denmark made an exchange trip to China August 2012. Participating in the project were 16 students and 4 youth leaders (teachers) from Denmark and they met with Chinese teachers, performers and students in Shanghai and Kunming. The project lasted for twelve days, six in Shanghai and six in Kunming.

In Shanghai they gave three performances: one with Caster Studio, one street performance on Nanjing Walking Street, and one at Duolun Museum of Modern Art. Furthermore, they took Taiqi classes in the park and Chinese Folk Dance classes and also gave workshops in Modern dance and Hip Hop.

In Kunming they worked with TCG Nordica and gave a performances and held workshops at there as well as at Yunnan Art Institute and Dangsters Studio in Kunming city.

After the trip, the Danish group expressed that the greatest experience from the exchange was to see a China that they did not imagine, and to see many different sides of China, from the international mega-city of Shanghai to the small remote Miao Village in Yunnan province.

The program was sponsored by GH5 Dance Studio (Shanghai), Gymnastikhojskolen in Ollerup (Denmark), and the European Union Commission on Youth (Youth In Action).

ArtsNordica worked as a connecting link between Ollerup and TCG Nordica.
