Scandinavian Culture Week in Kunming

The Scandinavian Culture Week in Kunming 2003 aimed to inform about Scandinavian society and cultural expressions.

The week included Scandinavian dance performances, concerts, cinema and drama as well as lectures about Nordic poetry. Arrangements were made in cooperation with Yunnan University.

Laila Kongevold and Stefan Christiansen in Kunming

Norwegian artists Laila Kongevold and Stefan Christiansen work in the guest studio on invitation by TCG Nordica. They also hold art lectures at Yunnan Arts Institute and TCG Nordica.

Suger & Salt

Five Chinese, five Swedish, one Norwegian and one British female artist take part in a barrier-breaking art project in Kunming and Sweden in 2003 and 2004 - “Suger & Salt”.

Give me five!

Five Swedish artists work together for one month in the LOFT area and present an exhibition “Give me five!” at LOFT and TCG Nordica.

Anna Carlsson to Kunming

Artist Anna Carlsson works in a TCG Nordica guest studio through cooperation with the West Gotaland Region during three summer months in 2003.

Anna Carlsson is the first artist coming to Nordica through the TCG Nordica – West Gotaland Artist in Residence exchange program, which is arranged by Artsnordica. Her duration of stay is June 14 to September 17, 2003.

During August 9 – 15 she leads a workshop at TCG Nordica.

Hyllie Park - TCG Nordica, 9 months: Young Artist to Sweden

Since 2003, TCG Nordica has sent a young Chinese artist to Sweden and Hyllie Park Folkhögskola every year for a time period of 9 months.

Sun Guojuan to Sweden

Visual Artist Sun Guojuan spends three months as an artist in residence on the Swedish West Coast, in the summer of 2003.

Sun Guojuan is the first Chinese artist who comes to Sweden through TCG Nordica’s cooperation with the West Götaland Region and the Nordic Water Colour Museum (on island Tjörn, outside Gothenburg), arranged by ArtsNordica.

Female Artist Sun Guojuan usually works in her studio in Chuang Ku (Loft), Kunming, China.

During her time on Tjörn, Sun started a cooperation with Dan Fröberg, experimental artist and responsible for the exchange at the Nordic Watercolour Museum, a cooperation they later continued via e-mail, resulting in an exhibition at TCG Nordica in 2004, the "Dan-Sun Planet".

Oskar Mörnerud to Kunming

One of TCG Nordica’s first Artists in Residence is Oskar Mörnerud, an art student from the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm.

Artist Oskar Mörnerud (born -76) grew up in Örebro and in Mörbylånga (Öland) Sweden. His installations are often created imaginary investigations of bird life and biotopes.

Nina Ericsson to Kunming. Passion

Artist Nina Ericsson works in TCG Nordica’s guest studio and presents the installation and photograph exhibition Passion in the gallery.

Opera! with Marianne G. Nielsen

2003. Danish Opera Singer Marianne G. Nielsen visits TCG Nordica and holds a concert singing arias from “Hildegard Von Bingen”.

Marianne G. Nielsen made her opera debut in Jerusalem in 2000, after graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Since then, she has been an internationally sought after prima soprano who has also appeared on TV and radio a number of times. One of Marianne’s specialities is her unique interpretation of “Hildegard from Bingen”.

This is the first of Marianne G. Nielsen's many visits to TCG Nordica and China.


Dance Exchange, Sweden – Yunnan. Two parts

Four dancers from Yunnan Arts Institute take part in an exchange with the Viksjöfors Ballet and the Dance Academy of Stockholm.

The first part of the project took place in Kunming, Yunnan in 2002, the second part in Stockholm, Sweden in 2003.


HPF School - TCG Nordica, 9 Months

In the end of August every year, a group of students from Hyllie Park Folkhögskola in Malmö travels to far-away Yunnan in China, to spend 9 months in Kunming, learning about China and culture through the Scandinavian-Chinese Culture Centre TCG Nordica.

Four Chinese poets to Nässjö Poetry Festival

Four Chinese poets from Kunming participate in Nässjö Poetry Festival 2002 in Sweden.

Nässjö Poetry Festival is an annual event in Nässjö, Sweden, mainly arranged by poet Goy Persson. Chinese Poets Yu Jian, Li Chuan, Yang Xuheng and Yi Sha from Kunming were guests at the Festival in June 2002, through an ArtsNordica/TCG Nordica arrangement.


HPF School – YAI Culture Exchange (two parts)

Ten Chinese and ten Swedish youths partake in an exchange between Hyllie Park Folkhögskola, Malmö, and Yunnan Arts Institute, Kunming. The first part of the project is carried out in China, and the second part in Sweden.

Part One – in China

Kunming, Yunnan, China, year 2000. The Swedish delegation of ten visits Kunming, and spends two weeks with the ten Chinese project participants.

Music and Art Exchange: China 2000 and Sweden 2001

A group of artists, teachers and students from Yunnan Arts Institute and Hyllie Park Folkhögskola participated in a music and art exchange in 2000 and 2001.

In 2000 the Swedish participants travelled to Kunming, China, for three summer weeks. In the summer of 2001 the Chinese participants came to Sweden, also for three weeks.

The exchange included both travels and many workshops together for the participants. The main art medium was music but there were also some visual art workshops.

The whole exchange ended with a large concert in Malmö Folkets Hus in June 2001, where part of the group participated in a choir and part in various ensembles in which the Chinese traditional music meet modern western improvisation. The concert was performed under the leadership of Per-Erik Hallin and Vincent Nilsson.


Jan Persson. Etchings from Runmarö

Swedish Artist Jan Persson visits Kunming and displays his work at T’Café in the exhibition “Etchings from Runmarö”.

(The former T’Café close to Yunnan University, Kunming, later moved to new premises in the LOFT are and changed name to TCG Nordica.)


Tranströmer visits Kunming

T for Tranströmer. Swedish Poet Tomas Tranströmer visits the Kunming Café named after him, T’Café/Gallery, for one week in the Spring of 2001.

Lectures and poetry recitals are arranged during the visit, which is also connected to the publishing of Tranströmer’s collected works in Chinese, translated by poet Li Li.


Walking through the Red Sea

Artist Janeric Johansson leads a six week project together with TCG Nordica’s founder Anna Mellergård, and author Göran Sahlberg. Ten students at Yunnan Arts Institute participate in the project, which is a part of the Yunnan International Arts Festival 1999.

"Walking through the Red Sea" became a foundation and a start for the culture centre TCG Nordica in Kunming.
